We were enormously fortunate to have Rena Grant join the Bread of Life spiritual direction team in 2004. She so loved listening to unfolding soul stories that she drove from the Bay area monthly for 13 years to take part in our mutual work. She had a particular love for people “at the edge” and accompanied many as a gift of her hands and heart.

Always ready to take the next step herself, she shared her rich interior journey with others as she explored the dynamics of grief and aging, of the movements of Grace through our Quadratos program, and of how creative process transforms our self-understanding. She took up photography as a way of looking with contemplative eyes at the world around. Several of her nature photographs grace our walls:

Rena survived a glioblastoma for 4 years, only recently becoming so weak that she chose to stop treatments and focus on the quality of her remaining life and relationships. She spoke of her approaching death with acceptance and peace and her sister reports that she died with a smile on her face the day after her 76th birthday.

We celebrate a life well-lived! Rena, you brought such grace to our common life and to the myriad souls you tended. Well done, good and faithful friend. It is our privilege to have known you and to have your companionship on our mutual journey.
