 Supporting the mission

OFFERING POSITIVE FORMATION FOR YOUTH

Like many non-profits in this economy, Bread of Life lost traditional funding sources even while the demand for services increased. This is especially so for our neighborhood mission, Spirit in the Arts, where visits increased by 21% in 2010.

Our response to challenge is to get creative; this mission is too important to lose! It's one reason Spirit Print was born.  Spirit Print is a related business that:

1. Extends our core mission of intentional formation to local at-risk youth through job skills training and personal mentoring

2. Helps support our free open studio space

3. Serves other non-profits and public sector entities with quality low-cost printing

mentoring At-Risk youth

Since Spirit Print began in summer 2009, we have worked with six local youth learning different aspects of the print business from hands-on printing to making community presentations to graphic design. They have come into Spirit Print for periods of time ranging from a few months while receiving SETA funds (Sacramento Employment Training Agency) to almost a year as a part-time Bread of Life employee. Three have gone on to take community college classes locally.

Supporting Spirit in the Arts, our free open studio space

We serve a fragile population already suffering job loss, precarious physical and mental health, and the shuttering of too many local sources of support. The free open studio is a sanctuary for those with no place to go, helps people access the best in themselves and others, and offers simple ways to make a contribution.

One regular who lost her job as a home health aide 2 years ago and who has not found steady employment since, helped pack up at the end of the week. “I like being useful,” she said. “I need to feel a part of something bigger.”

Serving other Non-profits

Times like these are an opportunity to come together in mutual support.  We partner with other non-profits, schools, public entities, churches and synagogues for fund raising efforts that use printed products.
